ONE ON ONE WITH: ROD B OF THE BLACKHEADS

Photobucket

I RECENTLY GOT A CHANCE TO TALK TO ROD B(the one in the red hat above), 1/4 OF THE BLACKHEADS. VERY COOL DUDE, I HAVE KNOWN HIM FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS. VERY LOYAL GUY. GET TO KNOW HIM IN THIS ONE ON ONE BELOW, HE IS ONE OF THE QUIET ONES, MAKING BIG MOVES IN CLEVELAND:

Danita D: Who are the Blackheads?

Rod B: We are a 4 man production team consisting of Demetrious, Mission Reload, Rod B. Moda and 90 East.

DD: Besides your own, what kind of music do you guys listen to?

RB: Not to sound so cliche, but we listen to just about everything. From Electro and Euro, B-More, Rock, Hip Hop, Soul, Funk, Jazz... The list goes on. We study music we don't just listen.

DD: Who have you guys worked with?

RB: We worked with a lot of Cleveland's underground rappers over the past years. We've done tracks with Rulership, SIR, 40 Watts, Cali Miles, and Garbs just to name a few, and we have some industry stuff brewing right now but thats on the hush. We also rap over our own shit cause most cats don't feel our style anyway. We did the Back From The Future mix tape with DJ K-Nyce. wake the fuck up if you sleepin on K-Nyce

DD: Who are Super Duper/Mixmatch Kids?

RB: Thats the artist side of The Blackheads. We are constantly trying to transform and morph so we often create an alias to accompany the vision so as not to distract people from what The Blackheads represent. Super Duper has just evolved once again to add long time friend/producer Mission Reload. Now we will be unstoppable.

DD: What are some of your favorite clothing brands out right now?

RB: Levi's, Zoo York, that shit they be having at H&M anything exclusive we don't really have too many favorites. We like Vans, Nike, Adiddas and Y-3 when it comes to the sneakers.

DD: Where do you guys shop for clothing?

RB: Urban Outfitters, Pac Sun, various online stores. We all like H&M too.

DD: What was the first piece of name brand clothing you ever purchased and why?

RB: We probably all was buying that Nautica, Tommy shit back when it was poppin in the 90's. Everybody was rockin that shit with the Jordans and them Starter Jackets.

DD: What is fashion missing these days?
RB: Simplicity

DD: What is music missing these days?

RB: Complexity

DD: If you guys could work with anybody musically, who would it be and why?

RB: The Neptunes, Kanye, Lupe Fiasco, Common, Andre 3000, Sa-Ra, The Roots and Will.I.Am just to name a few. We like artist and producers who aren't afraid to bust open the box and be creative.

DD: Who inspires you guys musically?

RB: Definitely the Neptunes and Kanye. We typically don't listen to too much rap to get influenced. It helps us avoid sounding like everybody else. We like to draw melodies and concepts from rock.

DD: What is your take on Cleveland's music right now?

RB: It sounds just like the south to me. That's kinda wierd once you realize that if you go any further north you will be in another damn country. Figure that... There is a movement on the rise that we really respect though. Shout outs to Keyel, Bravo, Poetic Republic, Bel V and everybody else doin there own shit.

DD: What's next for you all?(Blackheads/MMK/SD)

RB: We will be working on new Super Duper music along with production for Bel V. Be on the lookout for us at upcoming shows.
